Last week, Italy's government demanded that ISPs block access to popular BitTorrent tracker The Pirate Bay, a move that would clearly stop that nation's P2P users from using the website. Or not. After the ban, Italian traffic to the website actually increased, suggesting once again that the most these crackdowns do is advertise the website to the curious. "Since the block we’ve increased traffic from Italy," says the Pirate Bay's "Brokep" in a blog post. "We gained 10 places on Alexa in Italy, and our own stats show a 5% increase in traffic from Italy (which has been quite stable before)."
